Fr Hugh’s Homily for 15th Sunday in Ordinary Time
What Jesus is sowing is the truth. Just as Pilate famously asked in John’s gospel, ‘What is truth?’ It was standing before him. This has become a really problematic question for us today. Even to the point where we have to try to teach children how to read the internet with an eye to what is true and what is not. Some leading politicians have discovered that is easier than ever to sow what we might call ‘their brand of news’ rather than something based on the facts, and damage the real truth with such phrases as fake news. And so often we prefer the fake than the real. It might confirm our prejudices or give us false hope or be a comfortable version. Even before the internet this was common enough…..
