Fr Hugh’s Homily for Eleventh Sunday in Ordinary Time

In the old film Exodus, Paul Newman is on the deck of the boat of Jewish refugees he is trying to lead to Palestine to help set up the new state of Israel, in 1947. The British are refusing to let the boat leave Cyprus so he declares that he will blow up all 611 of them, men, women and children if they are not allowed to go. ‘Why not sacrifice the lives of these few people after so many Jewish lives have been lost in the Holocaust, for such a good cause?’  Understandable.
